Here are some photos of t the renovation, or complete rebuild, of Lillevik Lofoten from 2018 to 2020.
Lillevik was water damaged in the winter 2008 when the previous owner’s tenants left for the winter and turned off the heating, but not the water. The water flowed for several weeks without anyone noticing, and the problem was not discovered until the electricity company noticed some errors and went to check on the house. They quickly saw that there was ice everywhere, also outside the house.
After that the house was just left as it was for 10 years, and nobody seemed interesting in fixing it.
We bought Lillevik in 2018 and from 2018-2020 we practically rebuilt the house, with fantastic help from local carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc. We bought all services and materials from local businesses, and spent much more money than it would have cost to buy a “ready to live in” house.
Some people are critical to short-term rentals in Lofoten (especially AirBnb) and claims it makes the housing market challenging for locals. In Lillevik’s case there was zero interest in buying the house and making it possible to live in again, for 10 years, so we don’t think that’s the case here.
Lillevik has new .. everything: Plumbing, all new electrical installations, new outer walls, new inner walls, new triple glazed windows, new ceilings, two new bathrooms with heated floors, new kitchen, all new furniture, etc. It took about two years and it was a lot of work.
The house is now approved according to Norwegian Tek-17 standard, which means it’s well insulated and meets all modern standards.
We have done our best to make it a great place to stay in Lofoten, and we are continuously improving it for our guests.
