Lillevik in July.

Welcome to Lillevik Lofoten, your home away from home – in the heart of the Lofoten islands, above the Arctic circle. Lillevik is a completely remodeled 1960’s house at Gimsøy, with stunning views and all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery of the Lofoten Islands and enjoy the tranquil ambiance of our unique holiday home.

See sea eagles, northern lights, midnight sun, etc. through the panorama windows from the comfy sofas.

Lillevik is the perfect base for exploring the Lofoten islands, all year – it is quiet, but central: Gimsøy is “in the middle” of Lofoten, but just a bit away from the E10 main road and tourist centres. Most sights and activities are just a short and scenic drive away. See Location and the Gallery!

The living room’s large panorama windows give great views of both the northern lights and the midnight sun – and also sea eagles, seals, otter, porpoises (dolphins), foxes, owls and maybe a weasel.

There is a 150+ page binder with lots of information in the house and Lofoten in general, with our best tips and recommendations for getting the most out of your stay. You can also download it: Lillevik house book (PDF).

A stormy winter night – perfect for the lighting up the fireplace and enjoying some wine.

Super quiet, but central

This part of Gimsøy is exceptionally quiet, even for Lofoten. Less than 200 people live at Gimsøy, and a large part of the island is a nature reserve. The closest neighbor is 1 km away, and there is practically no traffic on the small road that goes past the house.

Everything you need is nearby: Gimsøy Landhandel (open 24/7/365) with groceries and a cozy café, the long, white sandy beaches at Vinje and Hov, the mountain Hoven (368 m) with an impressive 360° view, the Lofoten links golf course and much more. Local towns Henningsvær and Svolvær, with all kinds of shops, restaurants, etc. are around 30 minutes away. See Location and Travel for maps and travel distances.

The Lofoten links golf course, where you can play in the midnight sun. Just two minutes from Lillevik.

Gimsøya has superb conditions for watching both the northern lights and the midnight sun: There is open sea towards north, with no mountains, houses, or anything that block the views – and no light pollution. Both Lofoten locals and “aurora hunting” tour operators travel to Gimsøy to get the best conditions. At Lillevik you can experience this right where you live – also through the panorama windows.

Northern lights above Lillevik. No need to go “aurora hunting”, just go outside.

Lillevik has sun all day: From the early morning until after midnight (in summer). Note that only areas on the north side of Lofoten, like Gimsøy, have midnight sun. And: It’s quite nice that the sun goes behind Hoven for a few hours in the middle of the night, so you can sleep, but we also have blackout curtains in all bedrooms.

The house: Classic 60’s style with today’s comforts

Lillevik was built in the 1960’s and went through a complete rebuild in 2018-2020: All walls, windows, electrical wiring, plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms, etc. is completely new. The original atmosphere is preserved, with modern standards and great attention to details. Lillevik’s yellow color is a traditional Lofoten color, and so is the red color on the boathouse and barn.

Lillevik is now a modern «retro» house with everything you expect today: The house has all modern amenities, end everything is top quality. You get an authentic, cozy northern Norway experience, with all modern comforts.

The house’s plot is 92,000 square meters (92 hectares, or 23 acres), and the private beach is just 100 meters from the house.
